Science Festival Workshop

On Monday 19th May we took part in a Science Festival workshop run by 'The Edinburgh International Science Festival'.
Each group were given a house which they had the responsibility to insulate which would in turn save energy.

We took part in a quiz which allowed us to earn 'money' to buy insulation for our houses!!  We learnt that heat energy always rises and that heat moves from a hot place to a cooler place.
We learnt about Convection, Conduction and Radiation.

After we had purchased various heat saving insulators we used a piece of equipment which measured thermal heat in each of our houses.  We found out which house had managed to insulated the most heat and who had won the challenge!!

Travelling Gallery - 'I Heart Scotland'

Flotta class enjoyed a solo exhibition by Rachel Maclean entitled 'I Heart Scotland'.  The travelling gallery explored 'Scottish national identity and its founding mythologies.'

There were some really interesting pieces of art work which lead to a great deal of discussions.

The staff on the bus told us about each print; including information about where each idea had come from and how Rachel had made the print.  We then watched a short film which the artist had also made.  Class 7 really enjoyed the visit.

Some groups made and presented posters while others took to the great outdoors to source materials to build model Crannogs!!  One group even managed to make their Crannog float!!

Puppet Workshop

On Friday 25th April we took part in a fantastic puppet workshop.  A very talented puppeteer visited our school to perform for us.

We then performed a story using the puppets.  It was great fun and had us all giggling with laughter!

We were then able to use the puppets to perform our own peedie shows.

Different types of Pollution

In Flotta class we have begun learning about Conservation and Pollution.  We started off by thinking about what Conservation and Pollution was.  Then we thought more in depth about Pollution.   We split into groups to sort out the main categories of pollution and designed a poster to display the type, the physical changes and the effects it has on people, animals etc.
